J J Costa is a writer-firefighter (if that’s a thing!).
After sixteen years in the fire service, he has learned that storytelling and firefighting have a lot in common — things escalate quickly, plans rarely go exactly right, and a calm head usually saves the day.
He writes funny, fast-paced chapter books and picture books filled with chaos, courage, and characters who don’t always think things through.
As part of his role in the fire service, J J regularly visits schools to talk to children about fire safety — experiences that continually inspire the humour in his stories.
He lives near Reading.
